Proper edging creates clean lines between lawn and beds, prevents grass invasion, and gives your landscape a professional, finished look. The right edging also reduces maintenance time.

Material Comparison

Steel Edging

Cor-ten steel edging lasts 20+ years and develops a natural rust patina. Install 6-8 inches deep to block grass runners. Costs $3-5 per linear foot but virtually zero maintenance afterward.

Natural Stone

Flagstone or fieldstone provides a timeless look. Set stones 4-6 inches below grade so the mower passes over the top. Best for curved, informal bed designs.

Plastic Edging

Affordable and easy to install, but typically lasts only 3-5 years before becoming brittle. Choose heavy-duty 0.5mm+ thickness for best durability.

Installation Tips
